Make art history exciting with Great Artists Showdown, a fast-paced and educational card game inspired by the classic game of War! This interactive game helps players learn about 55 famous artists from across art history, including Renaissance, Baroque, Impressionist, American, and Modern artists, through friendly competition and meaningful comparisons.

Players compete by comparing artist facts such as birth year, age at death, art movement, nationality, and subject or technique. Each round is different, keeping the game engaging while reinforcing important art history concepts in a fun, memorable way.

Great Artists Showdown is perfect for kids, families, homeschoolers, and classrooms. It works well as a review game, enrichment activity, or an easy way to spark deeper conversations about art and artists from different time periods and styles.

For families in Classical Conversations, this game includes artists from all three cycles, making it a helpful resource year after year.

Players can play until one person collects all the cards or stop at any time and count cards to determine the winner, making the game flexible for different ages and group sizes.

How to Play:

  • Each player is dealt an equal stack of artist cards, each featuring key facts such as year born, age at death, art movement, nationality, and subject or technique.
  • On each turn, the active player rolls the category die to determine what type of artist fact will be compared for that round.
  • All players flip over the top card from their pile at the same time and compare the information shown on their cards based on the rolled category.
  • The player whose artist wins the comparison collects all face-up cards from the round.
  • If there is a tie, the cards are placed into a discard pile. The next player to win a round collects both the round’s cards and the discard pile.
  • Play continues until one player collects all the cards — or players can stop at any time and count cards to determine the winner.
